Eyebrow Transplantation
Thinning eyebrow can be caused by hormone disorders such as hypothyroidism (Hertoghe Sign) and is a common problem in Asian people. It is also caused by scarring on the eyebrows. Thicker eyebrows can be achieved by removing hair follicular units or grafts from the back of the head. Each of these grafts is then carefully implanted in the desired area. One graft usually contains about 1-4 hair strands while our natural eyebrow consists of multiple single hair strand. In order to obtain a result like our natural eyebrows which consist of multiple single hair strand, only the grafts containing one hair strand are therefore used. In addition, to prepare the grafts with a single hair strand, the direction and angle of each hair strand must be the same as the existing eyebrow hairs of the patient. Eyebrow transplantation is therefore one of the most challenging and delicate procedures requiring precision, experience and high expertise.
In eyebrow transplantation, the grafts must be carefully implanted in the same angle and direction as the existing eyebrow hairs for natural-looking results. DHI Hair Transplant is a great solution for this purpose since it uses the Implanter which gives the better control of direction, angle, dept and density of each graft. More importantly, the patient can get instant results after eyebrow transplantation.
As the donor hairs are extracted from the scalp, the transplanted hairs grow longer after the eyebrow transplantation. They therefore must be trimmed for the first 2-3 times to stop them from growing too bushy. Overtime, the eyebrow hairs will adjust themselves automatically according to its natural process and will grow slowly and eventually have the desired length of natural eyebrow hairs.
Eyebrow Transplantation Procedure With DHI Method
- Hairs at the back of the head called donor area which are resistant to DHT are trimmed or shaved to facilitate the graft extraction. The scalp is then injected with local anesthesia. You will be conscious throughout the process, but do not feel any pain.
- After the anesthesia takes effect, a special drill with only 0.6 – 0.8 mm in diameter is used to carefully excise the hair follicles without affecting the grafts or damaging the surrounding hair follicles. Only the grafts with single hair strand of the same direction as the existing eyebrow hairs are selected.
- The strip is carefully dissected, trimmed and sorted into follicular units (grafts) from tissue and lipid strip by the hair transplant team. The grafts with single hair strand of different directions are selected for further transplantation at each side of eyebrows in which these units are kept in a special solution to increase survival rate and growth rate.
- For the hair transplantation process, the trimmed grafts are placed in the DHI Implanter and then directly implanted into the desired area (without prior incision as in FUE technique) without affecting the skin area several times. In addition, it can control the direction and the degree of the implanted hair follicles to give you more natural result compared to traditional FUE technique.
